Ronny and Bertil break into a armory depot. During a test firing of the stolen goods Ronny accidentally kills Bertil. The Police begins a chase of Ronny, who is now on the run with his girlfriend Len.

Friends Erik, Mikael, and Benny grow up together in a chain house area outside Stockholm in the 1970s. Their families hang out as neighbors do, but behind the facades hide pain, sorrow, and lack. Follow the Munksås, Törnblad, and Elofsson families and witness events that have painful consequences--sometimes immediately, sometimes many years later.

During a strike strike-breakers are being transported to Lunde, where they are assaulted by the strikers. The military are sent in. On the 14th May 1931 there is a confrontation between demonstrators and the military who open fire and five people are killed and five injured.

Gustav and Jane Smith are facing their 30-year wedding anniversary, but Lena can not with the king any longer, but want them to be separated. The only Gustav do is to watch sports on any sport and do not give any attention at all, Lena. Gustav, however, think that all is well, and don't think they can give up just a week before their anniversary. Lena gives Gustav an absolute last chance and they go off on a kärleksweekend where Gustav will get to prove that Lena is more important than football and TV. But it shows football legend Tommy Franzén up and set everything on the head.
