Bo Bjelfvenstam and the cinematographer Jörgen Persson traveled to Tanzania and met Swedish Pentecostal missionaries and other Europeans who worked there. The film's title is taken from a quote by the African writer Okot p'Bitck: "Europeans are swarming into our lands swarming with white ants."
