Billy's life becomes even more confusing when he meets who would become his first wife, the socially inept Valencia Merble, at the YMCA where both worked. Later in life, he meets his lonelier and socially awkward second wife, Rosewater- the two relationships separated by a few years and a common meeting point at a Veteran's Hospital. Throughout his life, Billy is plagued by visions and flashbacks O the bombing of Dresden, playing a central role in the overall impact to his life.
