Details
On Body and Soul is a poetic and surreal Hungarian film directed by Ildikó Enyedi. The story revolves around two slaughterhouse workers, Endre and Mária, who realize that they have been having the same dreams where they meet as deer in a forest and fall in love. Intrigued by this connection, they decide to explore their dreams further and attempt to bring their dreams to life in reality.
However, they soon realize that making their dreams come true is not as easy as they had hoped. In the real world, both Endre and Mária struggle with personal insecurities and social awkwardness, hindering their ability to connect and form a genuine relationship. As their attempts in reality fall short, their dreams become the only place where they can truly be together.
The film beautifully combines elements of romance, fantasy, and mystery. It explores themes of longing, human connection, and the difficulty of bridging the gap between dreams and reality. The performances by the lead actors, Géza Morcsányi and Alexandra Borbély, are exceptional, capturing the delicate and complex emotions of their characters.
On Body and Soul is a thought-provoking and visually stunning film that will leave viewers questioning the nature of love, the power of dreams, and the possibilities that lie beyond the boundaries of our waking lives.
