Details
Child 44, set in the Stalin-era Soviet Union, follows the story of Leo Demidov, a disgraced member of the Russian military police. In this powerful thriller, Leo takes it upon himself to investigate a series of gruesome child murders that the state is desperately trying to cover up.
The film delves into the dark and chilling depths of a society where crime officially does not exist. As Leo digs deeper, he uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that threatens to expose the brutal truth: that a serial killer is on the loose. However, the government's denial of such crimes hampers his efforts, forcing Leo to go rogue. Alongside his wife, Raisa, and an unconventional general, the trio embarks on a dangerous journey to unmask the killer despite the constant surveillance and hostility they face from the authorities.
Child 44 is a gripping portrayal of a time and place where even acknowledging the existence of crimes can be a death sentence. This intense and atmospheric film shines a light on the darkness that hangs over 1950s Soviet Union, revealing the horrifying consequences of a society that values its reputation above human life. With an exceptional cast and an engaging storyline, Child 44 is a must-watch thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.
