The story follows a group of high school friends who are faced with a disturbing secret after one of them commits a shocking act. The film explores the complex dynamics of friendship, apathy, and morality.
The central character is Samson John Tollet (played by Daniel Roebuck), a disaffected teenager who discovers that his best friend, John, has killed his girlfriend. Instead of reporting the crime, Samson decides to involve his close-knit group of friends in keeping the secret. This decision leads to a series of morally ambiguous choices and exposes the flaws in the relationships between the characters.
As the friends grapple with the weight of this dark secret, their reactions and attitudes towards the crime become increasingly perplexing. Some show signs of empathy and concern, while others exhibit a disturbing level of indifference and apathy.

The film challenges viewers to question the boundaries of loyalty and the moral responsibility we have towards others. With its gritty realism and compelling performances, River's Edge offers a thought-provoking and unsettling examination of human nature.
